Sohu: We are very pleased to have Steve Appleton here with us today for a Sohu interview, Steve, would you do us the pleasure of introducing yourself for the camera and our audiences?
搜狐：我们今天非常高兴能够邀请到英国歌手Steve Appleton做客搜狐娱乐播报。Steve先请你面向镜头向我们的广大网友做个自我介绍吧。

Steve: Hi! My name is Steve Appleton, I am from London, I am a singer, I write songs, and I just finished producing an album called “Before the Sun Comes Up” which will be out in August 2009.
Steve：嗨！我是Steve Appleton，来自英国伦敦。我是一位歌手，并且自己写歌。我刚刚完成了一张名为“日出之前”的专辑，将于今年八月份正式发行。

Sohu: As a British singer, perhaps for Chinese audiences, we are less familiar with your work, could you spend a little more time talking to us about your music and yourself, and why you want to be a singer?
搜狐：作为一位英国歌手，可能很多中国朋友还不是很了解你的作品。能不能和我们聊一下你的音乐、你自己和为什么你想成为一名歌手？

Steve: Music has always been something I have been interested in at a very young age.  I started to play the piano when I was six years old, and it has always taken a path with me, and I have only always thought of doing music. Over the years, I’ve built up a repertoire and knowledge of music, and here I am doing a gig for smart car, in Shanghai. It’s really a ride!
Steve：音乐是我很小的时候就开始喜欢的东西。我从六岁开始弹钢琴，它一直陪伴着我，并且我一直都有做音乐的想法。经过多年努力，我积累了很多音乐知识，而此刻我来到上海为smart演出，感觉真不错！

Sohu: Do you ever write songs by yourself?
搜狐：你曾经自己写歌吗？

Steve: I have a studio in my house, and I just finished producing my own album. I can wake up, and by the time I go to sleep, I can finish a song. It’s been a privilege that my label allows to produce my own songs.
Steve：我在家里有一个自己的工作室，我刚刚完成我第一张专辑的制作。我经常在早晨醒来就开始创作，晚上睡觉的时候，已经完成了一首歌。很荣幸我的唱片公司能够允许我制作发行自己创作的歌曲。

Sohu: Actually you are a very young guy, only 19 years old; you’ve already been successful, except your own hard work and your passion, besides all this, what other factors have helped you along the way? Because you are lucky? How did you get to where you are today?
搜狐：其实你的年纪非常小，今年才19岁。你已经很成功了，除了你自己的努力和对音乐的热情，还有什么样的因素在这一路上帮助过你？仅仅因为幸运吗？你是怎样取得今天这些成绩的？

Steve: Nowadays just to get signed by a record label is a very hard thing. I feel like it’s a combination of luck and being at the right place and the right time. Obviously, having the skills to write songs is one thing, and getting the opportunity is another. You need both nowadays to really succeed.
Steve：现在跟唱片公司签约是一件非常困难的事情。我觉得自己很幸运，在恰当的时间出现在恰当的地方。当然，写歌的技术也是一方面，机会是另一方面。你需要二者兼备才能取得成功。

Sohu: We noticed in your Myspace introduction, you mentioned Jack Johnson and Jason Mraz as your influences. Who are you musical idols?
搜狐：我们注意到在你的Myspace的介绍里，曾经提到过影响你的两个人，一个是杰克•约翰逊，一个是杰森•玛耶兹。谁是你的音乐偶像？

Steve: My music has a lot of different styles, so I have different influences. From Bob Marley, to English drum and bass, REM Elton John, Billy Joel.
Steve：我的音乐有很多不同的风格，所以我也受了很多人的影响。比如鲍勃•马利对我的鼓和贝斯的影响，艾尔顿•约翰、比利•乔对我REM的影响。

Sohu: Although you were born in London, England, and maybe you are influenced by American styles, do you listen to more music from America or England? Do you like the music itself or the musicians?
搜狐：你出生在英国伦敦，但是似乎受到美国音乐的影响比较大，不知道平时听那个国家的音乐比较多？你是喜欢音乐本身还是看歌手来定你喜欢的音乐？

Steve: At the end of the day, the song that I like is most important, regardless of who the singer is. I want to explore more new music, like Chinese acts. If it’s good music then it’s good music. If I am interested in new music I will go and search on the net
Steve：事实上，我喜欢的音乐才是最重要的，无论演唱者是谁。我想探索更多新的音乐，比如中国音乐。好音乐就是好音乐。如果我对这种新的音乐感兴趣，我会上网去搜索相关的信息。

Sohu: What’s the style of your music? Is it your own style? Will it change in the future?
搜狐：你的音乐风格是什么？这是你独特的风格吗？将来会改变吗？

Steve: At the moment my style and sound is a collaboration and mix of many different types of music from funk, to pop to blues, to jazz, these are all genres that I listen to. Maybe on my third album, it might change. Five years from now. Maybe I will listen to more jazz 5 years from now, so my third album might be really jazzy. It really depends
Steve：现在我的音乐是许多音乐风格的融合，包括庞克，流行音乐，蓝调，爵士，都是我听过的各种流派。也许五年之后，我出第三张专辑的时候会有所改变。如果今后五年我听了更多的爵士乐，到时我的第三张专辑可能就充满爵士乐风格。要视情况而定。

Sohu: Have you been to China before? What’s your impression of Shanghai?
搜狐：你以前来过中国吗？对上海的印象怎么样？

Steve: It’s my first time in Asia in fact! Unfortunately I’m leaving tomorrow morning, because I want to explore more and more.
Steve：这是我第一次来到亚洲。可惜我明早就要离开了，否则我一定要了解更多新的东西。

Sohu: You came to Shanghai for smart launch right? As the ambassador of the smart brand, you came to the launch. You mentioned you are young and lucky, and you have talents. What talents and capabilities do you have that match the smart brand?
搜狐：你这次来到上海是作为smart品牌大使参加smart上市派对，对吗？你提到你很幸运，你拥有音乐才能，什么样的才能和特质让你能够和smart品牌相契合呢？

Steve: I think my personality and my music matches the smart brand. It’s different. It’s got different vibes. It allows people to see different music. It’s something new! The concept of smart is “open your mind”. It’s a new concept like my music. Because of this, we work really well together.
Steve：我认为我的个性和我的音乐与smart品牌非常契合。它很独特，让人们看到不同的音乐风格，是一种新东西！smart的理念是“open your mind”，就像我的音乐一样，是一个独特的理念。正因如此，我们的合作非常愉快！

Sohu: Aside from the music, about your personality, how do you match the smart brand?
搜狐：除了音乐，你认为你的个性如何契合smart的？

Steve: I’m happy, I enjoy life, I live in a city, all these attributes of being young and happy is similar to smart car, it’s cool and practical, and it matches my lifestyle. I live in London, and having a city vibe matches the smart car very well.
Steve：我很幸福，我很享受现在的生活，我住在城市里，所有这些年轻快乐的特质都和smart很相似。smart非常酷、非常实用，它很适合我的生活方式。我住在伦敦，我觉得伦敦这个城市和smart车的气质也非常合拍。

Sohu: Do you think in London, young people, can relate to your character and personality?
搜狐：你认为你身上的这些特质能够代表现在英国的年轻人吗？

Steve: it’s a fair representation! I think my album is about the life of a 19 years old. I think any 19 year old or past 19 year old can relate to my music. I think my character really comes out in my music. I think it is a fair representation of a 19 year old growing up in the city.
Steve：是的。我的专辑就是代表19岁年轻人的生活，我觉得任何19岁的人或曾经年轻过的人都会在我的音乐中找到共鸣。我的性格能通过音乐体现出来。我认为它是所有在城市中长大的19岁年轻人的代表。

Sohu: Has being such a young 19 year old brand ambassador for smart affected your daily life?
搜狐：在19岁就成为了smart的品牌大使，这对你的生活有什么影响？

Steve: My lifestyle and smart car work together. It hasn’t changed me as a person. I wouldn’t’ want to change because I am a brand ambassador. I don’t’ think I have changed. I want to stay honest.
Steve：我的生活和smart是密不可分的，但这不会改变我本人。我不想因为我是smart品牌大使就去改变什么，我也不认为我会被改变，我就是我。

Sohu: The smart launch party, what did you think of the event and party?
搜狐：昨晚在上海举办了smart灵动上市派对，你有什么感受和我们分享？

Steve: It was amazing! The amount of work that goes into these events is mind blowing. It takes weeks of preparation and organization. It’s been a privilege and honor to fly out. The whole vent was a success! From the beginning to the end. Everyone is feeling good, and everyone had fun, and I think my music worked well it was an overall success! Performing live was amazing
Steve：简直太棒了！为了这个上市晚会，大家做出了非常大的努力。准备和组织这次活动花费了很多时间。能够参加这次活动我感到非常荣幸。这次活动非常成功！整个过程中，每个人都非常愉快，我的音乐也非常成功。现场表演真是太棒了！

Sohu: smart has a philosophy “less is more, small could be big”: does this to you and the British youth?
搜狐：smart有一个哲学：“小即是大”。对于你或者其他英国年轻人来说是这样吗？

Steve: I think it is a very interesting and clever expression because I think the best things in life are free. The simple things in life. the certain elements of life, like the design of my T-Shirt, is not necessary. The simple things in life is what smart delivers : just everything you need.
Steve：我觉得这是一种非常有趣和聪明的表达，我认为生活中最好的东西就是自由，其实生活本身是非常简单的，就像我T-Shirt上的设计，其实是不必要的。smart传递的就是生活中“简单”的理念，只是你需要的东西。

Sohu: As a brand ambassador, what’s one of the best things about the smart car?
搜狐：作为一位品牌大使，你觉得smart车最好的地方是什么？

Steve: It’s practical, the size, it’s small you can park in spaces when no one can. It’s an urban car. It’s just so practical.
Steve：它很实用，微型的车身可以使你把它停在任何地方。它是一辆都市座驾，实在是太实用了。

Sohu: We are very curious, beside from music, as a representative of British young people, what else do you do?
搜狐：作为一个英国年轻人的代表，我们很好奇你除了音乐之外，还做些什么呢？

Steve: I love to play sports, I like to play tennis. I used to go skiing a lot. My music career is so busy; if I break my wrist, then I can’t play music. I love football. I am an outdoors type of guy, and active type of guy. I can’t get enough of it.
Steve：我喜欢运动，喜欢打网球。我也经常滑雪，但是我的音乐事业太忙。如果我手腕受伤的话就不能演奏了。我热爱足球运动，喜欢户外运动，并且很活跃，永远都停不住。

Sohu: Do you also like shopping, watching movies, less active things?
搜狐：你喜欢购物、看电影这些不太活跃的事情吗？

Steve: I love watching movies, I go window shopping, haha. I am not a huge shopper, I buy things when I need them.
Steve：我喜欢看电影，也会去逛街，哈哈！不过我不是一个购物狂，我只是在需要的时候买东西。

Sohu: You came for the smart launch, but next time, have you ever thought of developing more of your career here? Play more gigs here? Will you come back and promote your album in China?
搜狐：你这次来是为了smart 上市，下次来会不会更多地考虑发展自己的事业？比如在这里开演唱会？你会回来在中国推广你的专辑吗？

Steve: I would love to come back! If the Chinese market feels my music, I would love to come back again. This time was about smart, maybe next time I will come back and do a tour, you never know…I would love to come back.
Steve：我愿意回来！如果中国市场接受我的歌，我很希望能够回来。这次是因为smart，也许下一次我会来游历一番。没人知道之后会发生什么，但我非常希望能够再来中国。

Sohu: Today, we’re really happy that Steve shared with our audiences his music and life, next time he’s back, we would love to talk to him some more!
