　　Born in 1966, Wang Xiaoshuai is one of the prominent figures,

　　together with Zhang Yuan, Jia Zhangke, and others, of what is

　　now widely referred to as China's “Sixth Generation”.

　　His first feature was The Days (1993), depicting the last days of a

　　deteriorating relationship between two artists in Beijing. Next came Frozen

　　(1995), a look at the Beijing avant-garde art world. Wang's next production,

　　Beijing Bicycle, is his most financially successful so far, produced by

　　Taiwanese producer Peggy Chiao, as part of a six-piece project entitled

　　“Tales of Three Cities” (Beijing, Hong Kong and Taipei). Beijing Bicycle

　　won the Grand Jury Prize (Silver Bear Award) at the 2001 Berlin

　　International Film Festival and its two leading male actors received Best

　　Young Actor Prize.
