BEIJING – CHJ Automotive founder and CEO Li Xiang on December 4 posted via his Sina Weibo account photos of its upcoming Smart Electric Vehicle (SEV) two-seater on the streets of Paris and San Francisco, two cities where the SEV will soon begin shared mobility services with local operators.
The futuristic looking SEV is the size of half a smart with the passenger seat located vertically behind the driver’s seat instead of horizontally on the right, and the cockpit is designed like a flight simulator, according to Li. The driver’s seat has ample room for a 195-cm tall person and Li says the SEV is tailored for shared mobility in the range of 0-20 km, compared with shared bikes which are ideal for riding within 3 km.
The SEV has a range of at least 100 km, meets European L6e requirements, offers 4G network and vehicle OTA capabilities and is already cleared to take the roads in both Europe and the U.S.
Customers operate the vehicle simply via smart phones and the vehicle will be offered on free-floating car sharing platforms. Four SEVs can be parked on a standard parking space.
Li also announced that CHJ Automotive will announce its own mobility brand and logo in early 2018.
CHJ Automotive signed deals with Scoot Networks, a San Francisco-based provider of shared, electric scooter services and Clem, a Paris-based time share rental operator to provide free floating car sharing services in the two cities.
CHJ Automotive began trial production of its SEV at its smart vehicle production base in Changzhou, Jiangsu Province on August 21 and quantity production will commence in the first half of 2018.
