According to the date released by the National Bureau of Statistics on January 25, the private car ownership in China totaled 26.05 million units at the end of 2009, up 33.8% over the previous year.
The 2009 National Economic and Social Development Statistics Bulletin of People's Republic of China shows that at the end of 2009 civilian vehicle ownership in China reached up to 76.19 million units(including 13.31 million units of three-wheeled vehicles and low-speed trucks), with an increase of 17.8% over the previous year. The civilian car ownership totaled 31.36 million units, up 28.6%, according to the Xinhua News Agency.
The Bulletin shows that in 2009 China produced 13.795 million vehicles, up 48.2% compared with the year of 2008. Among them 7.485 million units were cars, up 48.6%. The added value of automotive manufacturing industry increased by 20.3% and the growth of automotive retail sales was 32.3%.
The indicator of private car appeared in the 2003 Bulletin of Statistics for the first time. At the end of 2003 the private car ownership in China totaled 4.89 million units and the annual vehicle output reached 4.444 million, of which 2.02 million units were cars. (Translator: Qinghua/Hanxin)
