Chinanews.com reports that Beijing Auto Show is grandly opened on 30th April, which is the first international automobile show after China became the “No. 1 automotive market in the world”, there will be over 95 units of new energy vehicles to debut on this show. The amount of new energy cars takes up almost one tenth of the number of the whole cars to participate the auto show. The industrialization of new energy vehicles is even considerate as the biggest highlight in this Beijing Auto Show.
Some analysts say, viewing from the current situation of policy environment, company investment, product serial and technology development, the domestic automotive industry may divide based on Beijing Auto Show, and greet the turning point from the surreptitious hard work to rapid development.
The field of new energy vehicle has brought revolutionary changes for automotive industry. Various auto enterprises seem to stand on a new starting line. Multinational automotive giants are gearing up to seek for extending the advantages in the field of conventional automobiles. The Chinese auto companies are also eagerly looking forward to playing a “comeback” One undeniable fact is, viewing from the will of consumers, the investment of research and development of car companies, and the development trend of low-carbon economy, new energy vehicle has already become an irreversible industry trend.
On 5th March this year, Premier Wen Jiabao mentioned in government’s work report during the two sessions to “focus on breakthrough in new energy vehicle, high-speed rail transportation, water-saving in industrial and agricultural industry and other important key technologies”. This official statement was generally interpreted by the insiders in automotive industry that new energy vehicle has already been risen to the national strategic level.
Although the government and the car companies are selling new energy vehicle very actively and loudly, the consumers aren’t buying it.
The forecast reports, released earlier this year by Auto consulting company Global Insight even with the subsidy policy, the sales amount of hybrids and electric automobile in Chinese market in 2010 and 2011 reach only up to 40.000 and 300.000 units. This number is just a fraction, comparing to over 12.5 million units of sold gasoline-driven automotives in 2009.
At present, electric vehicles in the domestic consumer market meets a lot of difficulties: The state provide the preferential policy for the purchase of electric vehicles; Electric vehicle’s using safety, ancillary facilities and policy environment are improving further; battery, motor and electronic control and a series of technical problems are progressing and have breakthrough; The state have set up the technology standards in the field of electric vehicles, and so on. All of them are the basis and key to popularization of new energy vehicles.
“New energy vehicles is the trend of the sustainable development of enterprises and the whole industry’s development, which is beyond any doubt,” Director of Information Resource Development Department of State Information Center Xu Changming, who concern and research Chinese automotive industry for a long time, told the reporter, but new energy vehicles have to meet general rules of the production of automotive products. Technology and quality are still the foundation of the products.
Comparing to the price, the technical reliability is the bigger roadblock for the development of new energy vehicles Jia Xinguang, ex-chief analyst of Beijing Auto Industry Development Research Institute , believes that manufacturers cannot just blame the consumers’ awareness doesn’t increase. They should begin with the increase of technical standards. “As long as the technical problem isn’t mature, the manufacturers couldn’t expect new energy vehicles to sell well”.
