Stress Balance – Work Is Not All of Life
Sohu Auto: In the past two years of your work in China, what’re the biggest challenge and difficulty you have encountered?
Boesch: Probably the Babel Tower. Through the language, you can quickly understand the culture of a market and the direct reaction of the person you talk to. Due to the Babel Tower, I am a little slower in communication and market understanding.
Sohu Auto: Then, have you learned Chinese?
Boesch: No. I tried in the beginning, but later found I didn’t have enough time.
Sohu Auto: Besides Japan and China, you have also worked as the sales manager in Holland, Belgium, Spain, Turkey and other countries. Has the experience in these countries help your current work? What country do you like the best?
Boesch: I am very lucky to have experienced such an interesting, such a challenging and such a diverse career, and worked in so many markets. All the experiences in these markets are very necessary and meaningful to my work in China. This is because the Chinese market changes the fastest in the world. Something is right today, but will possibly become wrong tomorrow. The prior experience of touching and understanding different markets has made me better adapt to China, a fast-growing and very diversified market.
If you ask me what country or market is my favorite, I feel this should be China. The work in China for more than two years is the most diverse and strongest experience in my career.
Sohu Auto: Audi has always seen progressiveness as its DNA, then, what character do you have in life? Do you pay much attention to progressiveness as well?
Boesch: I am afraid you will have to ask my colleagues or friends about my personality. Yet, the Audi brand is marked with a very express progressive DNA, which is an organizational behavioral characteristic of the Audi team. When it comes to progressiveness, it includes many things, such as constant innovation, constant pursuit of leading capacity and position, passion and responsibility.
Sohu Auto: What hobbies do you have in spare time? Do you have any special ways to relax yourself?
Boesch: In my spare time, I do many things. For example, I read books, go to see some exhibitions, visit art museums, chat with friends, know more about the Chinese culture, and do some exercise to balance my life better. I don't spend all of my time on work, but get enlightened from many different aspects.
Sohu Auto: Please recommend a book that has influenced you the best?
Boesch: For me, what has influenced me the best is not a book in common sense, but a collection of remarks of celebrities.
