10 Auto companies:Standard for Electric

Electric vehicles are becoming one of the main directions of energy-saving and environmentally-friendly vehicles. Top ten domestic automobile enterprises have signed an agreement to jointly develop standards for electric vehicles, according to the cnstock.com.

Dong Yang, the executive vice president of China Automobile Industry Association, expressed yesterday in China Machinery Industry Association working conference that in order to achieve the goal put forward in the Plan for Automobile Industry Restructuring and Revitalization, top ten domestic automobile enterprises have signed the Outline of Joint Action for Electric Vehicle Development. These ten companies are SAIC, FAW Group, Dongfeng Motor Group, Changan Automotive Group, Guangzhou Automobile Group, Beijing Automotive Group, China Heavy Duty Truck, Brilliance Auto, Chery Automobile and JAC.

It is reported that the leaders of the electric vehicle project joined by the ten automobile companies will set up a leading group for electric vehicles. The Secretary-General of China Association of Automobile Manufacturers will be designated as the convener. His obligations include setting up the working group on electric vehicles, special studies on electric vehicles, preparation of joint action plan, the establishment of working group for the electric auto standard project and all the preparation work for the joint work to set down standards for electric vehicles.

In July 2009, ten auto companies jointly established the “electric vehicle industry alliance” to tackle all kinds of obstacles during the industrialization of energy-saving and new energy vehicles, according to the cnstock.com.

Dong said the development of electric automobile industry is facing three problems. First, the industry is lack of the capacity of product research and development. Second, there is unsteadiness and consistency of components quality within the industry. Third, we can see there is a problem of high cost of production due to small producing scale.

Top ten automotive group executives said it is beneficial for the realization of the goals put forward by Plan for Automobile Industry Restructuring and Revitalization to produce new energy vehicles in the next three years by overcoming the problems within the electric vehicles development process. The goal for China auto industry is to produce 500,000 pure electric, plug-in hybrid and common type of hybrid vehicles and other new energy vehicles, and the sales of new energy cars should account for 5% among the total sales of passenger cars.

Ministry of Science, Engineering and Information and the Department of Development and Reform Commission once disclosed the great significance of eclectic vehicles as the breakthrough in new energy autos development. Wan Gang, CPPCC Vice-Chairman and the Minister of Science and Technology of PRC said that China's auto should strategically attach great importance to the issue of carbon emissions in response to government calls and follow the policy direction, and actively lead the market.

The development of electric vehicles should be fully integrated with the market, policy, technical planning line. In the process of integrating with the world market, China’s auto industry must never forget to reflect China’s own characteristic. It is important to make full use of the “one city contains a hundred cars” opportunity to achieve the transition from the industrialization of research and development to the industrial research and development with more mature technology and gradual costs reduction.
