SAIC Embraces High-Level Personnel Changes

　　On Tuesday, Shanghai Automotive Industry Corporation, which has suspended the trading of its stocks for the preparation of going public as an entire company, announced that there would be high-level personnel changes. After the consideration by directors, Ding Lei applied for resigning as Vice President of SAIC. Ye Yongming, Vice President of SAIC who is in charge of trade services, will take over the post as General Manager of Shanghai GM. Information Times learned that after leaving from SAIC, Ding Lei will be assigned as Chairman of Zhangjiang Hi-Tech.

　　Shanghai GM's insiders told Information Times that due to the post adjustments of Ding Lei and Ye Yongming, a number of executives of Shanghai Automotive Industry Corporation will face personnel changes. Chen Demei, General Manager of Shanghai Huizhong Automotive Manufacturing Company Ltd., will succeed Ye Yongming as Vice President of SAIC to take charge of trade services.

　　Ding-style speed of Shanghai GM

　　In the past, Ding Lei succeeded Hu Maoyuan and Chen Hong as the leader of Shanghai GM. In January 2005, Ding Lei succeeded Chen Hong as General Manager of Shanghai GM under a favorable circumstance. During his tenure, Ding Lei introduced the brand of Chevrolet to implement the multi-brand strategy with Buick, Cadillac and Chevrolet. At the same time, Ding Lei implemented the strategy of Green Future and led the establishment of Dongyue production base as well as the construction of the southern plant. Finally, in 2010 the annual sales of Shanghai GM's cars totaled up to 1.03 million units, ranking first in China.

　　It is learned that in the next five years Shanghai GM will introduce 12 new kinds of engines, ranging from 1.4-liter to 2.5-liter. With the vehicles introduced by Buick, Cadillac and Chevrolet, center direct injection in the cylinder, turbo-charged technologies and six-speed transmission will be further popularized. In addition, as to the new generation of models, Shanghai GM will further enhance the application of integrated energy-saving technologies, including low-drag aerodynamic designs, lightweight vehicles, automatic start and stop of engines, electric power steering (EPS) and etc. in order to improve the fuel economy of its vehicles. By the year of 2015, the overall fuel consumption of automotive products will be reduced by 15% and the overall performance will be upgraded by 14%.

　　Recently, according to the project named Energy-Saving Products Benefit People, China has just introduced the fifth list of fuel-efficient cars. Among all the major domestic manufacturers of passenger cars, Shanghai GM obtained a high rank, which indicates that the products of Shanghai GM have good fuel efficiency. On the other hand, Shang GM has got rid of the previous image that its products consumed too many fuels.

　　Strategic planning of green products will become the major task for Ye Yongming after he takes office.

　　The latest data shows that in 2010 the sales of Shanghai GM totaled 1.03 million units. The scale exceeded one million units for the first time. Shanghai GM has implemented the strategy of Green Future for more than two years. According to Shanghai GM's strategic planning of green products, in 2010 Shanghai GM should introduce the prototype model of pure-electric Sail BEV. In 2011, Shanghai GM will release two new energy vehicles. From 2013 to 2015, Shanghai GM will achieve the mass production of electric vehicles.

　　It is reported that previously Ye Yongming was responsible for trade services of SAIC and he was skilled at marketing. In the year of 2010, the annual sales income of SAIC's automotive services industry reached 38 billion yuan, increased by 2.2 times compared with the end of 10th Five-Year Plan period. During his tenure, Ye Yongming conducted a comprehensive reorganization of SAIC's service business to achieve the basic realization of full coverage of automotive service industry chain.

　　In 2004, Shanghai Volkswagen was faced with downturns. Ye Yongming was the former General Manager of Sales and Executive Vice President of Shanghai Volkswagen. At that time, Santana, Santana 3000 and Passat had become outdated. Due to the consumption attitudes, the sales of POLO, Gol and Touran were not satisfactory. The performance of Shanghai Volkswagen was tepid. From the automobile manufacturer to dealerships, there was a lack of awareness of overall marketing.
